September 20, 2011

This past summer saw countless incredible jazz festivals make to rounds to lucky fans around the world. As usual, there were none quite like the party they throw in Montreal. The only challenge for the jazz lover at the Montreal Jazz Festival was to make their decision on what artists to see. Widely known as the largest jazz festival in the world, the recent 32nd Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, which took place from June 25 through July 4, again served up the mother lode of concerts which included many of the world’s top jazz, pop, and musical artists in a wide variety of styles. Some highlights included; the all-star jazz-rock group that performed Return to Forever’s repertoire, which featured Chick Corea, Lean-Luc Ponty, Stanley Clark Lenny White and Frank Gambale; Esperanza Spalding’s Chamber Music Society, The legendary Dave Brubeck Quartet, Saxophonist Phil Woods performing with upcomer Grace Kelly, platinum recording artist – Sade, the unstoppable Tony Bennett, last minute addition, Prince, and so many more.

This year’s festival, which was again sponsored by TD and Rio Tinto Alcan, featured over 750 free outdoor concerts at multiple stages around the central city area in addition to 250 indoor concerts.

Running concurrently with the Jazz Festival was the 5th Annual Montreal Guitar Show at the Hyatt Regency, which featured an array of concerts, conferences and workshops, along with exhibits from 145 luthiers from 13 countries. Over 500 handmade guitars were on display!
