10th Annual Big Band Jam Set for Spring in D.C

The 10th Annual Big Band Jam, selected as one of the “Top 100” event destinations in the United States in 2014 by the ABA Tour Operators of America, is scheduled throughout Washington D.C. and at Blues Alley, from April 17th – 27th. It’s the only jazz festival in America specifically created by kids for kids.

The theme of the event this year is the “Count Basie Legacy” and the featured artist/clinician will be internationally renowned saxophonist Bob Mintzer of the acclaimed quartet The Yellowjackets. Mr. Mintzer will be conducting a free midday master class daily on Pershing Park plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue adjacent to The White House. ¬†School ensembles will receive instruction daily, April 22nd-25th from 12:00-1:00 pm.

The festival’s invited and featured big band ensemble is the critically acclaimed USAF Airmen of Note who will be providing free classes, clinics, performances and a big band dance. Additional venues that have partnered with the Big Band Jam are Blues Alley, The Kennedy Center, Ronald Reagan Building, National Press Club, Grace Episcopal Church, Westminster Church and The Church of the Epiphany.
