2017 Highlights in Jazz ends May 4 with The Joe Bushkin Centennial

April 19, 2017

Jack Kleinsinger’s Highlights In Jazz, New York’s longest running jazz concert series, has announced that it will conclude its 45th season on Thursday, May 4 at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center with The Joe Bushkin Centennial concert.

The final show of the 2017 season will celebrate musical legacy of Joe Bushkin with performances from Wycliffe Gordon, Harry Allen, Eric Comstock, John Colliani, Nicki Parrott, Ted Rosenthal, Steve Johns and Spike Wilner, all under the musical direction of Bob Merrill. As always, a surprise special guest will also appear and perform at the concert.

Trumpeter and vocalist Bob Merrill, who also was the late Bushkin’s former musical collaborator and son-in-law, commented on the final show of the season and Bushkin’s legacy.

“Joe was indeed a great pianist, but he was also a great songwriter.  Our mission is to make that case and breathe new life into these classics,” Merrill says. “It will be a special night celebrating Joe Bushkin’s gifts as a songwriter on the occasion of this centennial birthday tribute.”
