Biamp PDX Jazz Festival will present Eldon “T” Jones & Touch: Let it Flow for Grover Washington Jr. on Friday, March 1, 2019. The performance will feature Gerald Veasley and Marcus Strickland + Delvon LaMarr Organ Trio at Revolution Hall in Portland, Oregon. December 12, 2018 would have been Grover Washington Jr.’s 75th birthday.

In addition, the next day (March 2), the festival will host Wide Angles: Remembering Michael Brecker with guest soloists Eli Degibri, Maria Grand, Chris Potter and Marcus Strickland. Chris Potter Circuits Trio with Eric Harland & James Francies will also perform at the Revolution Hall show. 2019 will mark what would have been Michael Brecker’s 70th birthday.

Wide Angles, under the musical direction of Gil Goldstein, will be performed live for the first time in Portland as part of the Philly Special festival program on closing weekend. John Nastos has assembled the brass ensemble and string quartet for this PDX Jazz Exclusive special occasion. Guest saxophonists include Eli Degibri, Maria Grand and Marcus Strickland. Degibri, a native of Tel Aviv who serves as the artistic director for the Red Sea Festival where Brecker often performed, recently initiated the first International Saxophone Competition in Brecker’s name.

The 2019 PDX Jazz Festival tribute concerts for Grover and Michael Brecker are part of the Philly Special closing weekend headline performances, which also feature Philadelphia bass legend Stanley Clarke.
