International Jazz Composers’ Symposium Announces Schedule
The International Jazz Composers’ Symposium (IJCS) has announced the schedule for the 2017 symposium, which will take place from May 18 to 20 at the University of South Florida (USF) School of Music. The 2017 event marks the first IJCS in almost ten years. The USF School of Music new music building/concert hall will provide a space for composers and artists to connect and network.
The 2017 symposium will feature Billy Childs (and his Quartet), John Hollenbeck (with the Claudia Quintet), Christine Jensen, Chuck Owen (with his Jazz Surge), Rufus Reid, Maria Schneider, and Ryan Truesdell, as well as over 65 composers who have been selected to have their work presented at the symposium. Randy Brecker and Gregoire Maret are both scheduled to make special appearances as well.
IJCS will also offer the “Education Track” program for the first time this year to offer novice student jazz composers lessons led by prominent jazz educators and composers.
