Juilliard Jazz Presents The Latin Tinge: Ray Barretto, Cal Tjader, and Carlos Henriquez

juilliardjazzfestivalJuilliard Jazz presents “The Latin Tinge: Ray Barretto, Cal Tjader, and Carlos Henriquez” featuring Juilliard Jazz Ensembles on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 7:30pm in Paul Hall. The program’s guest coach is Carlos Henriquez, an alumnus of Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program and a member of Wynton Marsalis’s Septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Resident coaches are faculty members Ulysses Owens Jr. and Doug Wamble.

Mr. Wamble’s ensemble features Zoe Obadia (alto saxophone), Nathan Sparks (trumpet),Jeffery Miller (trombone), Gabriel Schneider (guitar), Joel Wenhardt (piano), Joel Ross(vibraphone), Kanoa Mendenhall (bass), and Cameron MacIntosh (drums), Jimmy Delgado(Latin percussion). The ensemble will perform Los Banditos (Cal Tjader, arr. Cameron MacIntosh and Nathan Sparks), Bambarakatunga (Ray Barretto, arr. Joel Wenhardt), Linda Chacana (Tjader, arr. Jason Marsalis ), Hard Hands (Barretto, arr. Gabriel Schneider), and The Bronx Pyramid (comp. Carlos Henriquez).

Mr. Owens’s ensemble features David Milazzo (alto saxophone), Dean Tsur (tenor saxophone),Anthony Hervey (trumpet), Nick Lee (trombone), Lake Jiroudek (guitar), Micah Thomas(piano),alumnus Joseph Doubleday (vibraphone), Philip Norris (bass), Jared Silverstein(drums), and Jimmy Delgado (Latin percussion).The ensemble will perform Liza Anne (Tjader, arr. Lake Jiroudek), CuraƧao (Tjader, arr. Jared Silverstein), Sabor (Tjader, arr. Anthony Hervey), Guarare (Barretto, arr. David Milazzo), Joshua’s Dream (Carlos Henriquez, arr. Nick Lee), Cuchifrito (Henriquez, arr. Dean Tsur), and Guarajazz (Henriquez, arr. Philip Norris).
