Local 802 AFM Announces Jazz Mentors 5

jazzmentorsOn October 3, Local 802 American Federation of Musicians will host Jazz Mentors 5, the fifth installment of Local 802’s Jazz Mentors, a series of interactive panel discussions designed to connect up-and-coming musicians with some of New York City’s premier jazz artists to discuss the business components of developing a career in music. Grammy winning percussionist Bobby Sanabria joins trumpet player Randy Sandke and drummer Omar Hakim on the Jazz Mentors 5 panel. These three panelists will guide young and emerging musicians through an open panel discussion about the importance of finding a place of one’s own in the jazz world. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the intricacies of the business and career management aspects of professional life in the music industry.

Mr. Sandke, Mr. Sanabria, and Mr. Hakim will discuss fair payment, understanding representation, protecting intellectual property in a digital age, the impact of streaming services, and building a secure financial future.

Located at Local 802’s union hall at 322 West 48th Street, Manhattan, the informal setting will allow for a free flowing exchange between the audience and the renowned artists, encouraging full audience participation and interaction.
