Pianist Monty Alexander, a Jamaican-born jazz influencer for more than five decades, will perform shows at Jazz Forum this month on October 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

During Alexander’s career, he performed thirteen years of headline performances at the Montreux International Jazz Festival, and is cited as he fifth greatest jazz pianist ever in The Fifty Greatest Jazz Piano Players of All Time (Hal Leonard Publishing).

As Alexander says, he holds a predisposition “to build up the heat and kick up a storm,” combining blues, gospel and bebop, calypso and reggae. He will be joined by pianist Monty Alexander, bassist JJ Shakur, and drummers Jason Brown and Bernard Montgomery.
