Carter To Perform at Eastman School of Music

Share This:

Jazz saxophonist James Carter will perform at the Eastman School of Music as a guest artist with the Eastman Wind Ensemble (EWE) on February 5, 2018.

The piece Carter is scheduled to play (“Concerto for Saxophones”) was written for an orchestra/classical group to play, with sections designated specifically for Carter to improvise. Eastman’s own director of EWE Mark Scatterday arranged the piece, working with the composer as well.

“The Eastman Wind Ensemble brings in some of the finest performers to play as guest artists at our concerts,” said Scatterday says of James’ visit. “To exposure these students to influencers like James who are out there doing this for a living, at a really high level, that kind of collaboration is invaluable.”
