Charleston Jazz Announces New CJO Member

Share This:

Charleston Jazz has announced a new member of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra. Gavin Smith will join the trombone section, replacing Jay Jehl, who has moved back to Indiana to begin a new teaching gig.

“I’m really excited to have Gavin join the band full-time! He’s subbed in on the band several times, and has always done a great job. It has been fun watching this young man grow as a player and a professional over the years, and he was the first call I made when the spot opened up!” says Robert Lewis, CJO music director.

“Although I have performed with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra on many occasions up to this point, I consider it an honor and a privilege to be an official member of this amazing group of musicians,” adds Smith. “I look forward to continuing my development as a musician, and being a part of the musical lineage and history that has come out of our city of Charleston, while aiming to have a positive influence and inspire the next generation of talented musicians.”
