Share This:

DanielGlassJazzIntensiveAward winning drummer, author, historian and educator Daniel Glass is on a mission to teach the world to swing.

Introducing two new music programs: The inaugural Daniel Glass New York Jazz Intensive at Drummers Collective in NYC from June 3-6, 2016 and a new DVD, “From Ragtime to Rock:  An introduction to 100 Years of American Popular Music.”  The DVD, the latest in a series of successful educational products, is available as both a 2-Disc set and digital download (see trailer).  Those who want to attend the jazz drumming intensive can apply online at bit.ly/DGNYJazzIntensive where scholarships are also available.

“To create your musical future, you’ve got to know your musical past,” explains Glass, whose simple message offers today’s musicians and music educators a deeper appreciation of their craft.

From Ragtime to Rock (DVD)

Now, Glass is excited to unveil the latest installments in his mission to “teach the world to swing.” The first of these projects is an educational DVD, From Ragtime to Rock: An introduction to 100 Years of American Popular Music. This 110-minute documentary offers a sweeping look at a century of music evolution, covering the end of the Civil War (1865) to the dawn of the British Invasion (1965). The approach Glass takes in sharing this material addresses a key challenge facing modern music educators – how to get their students to feel more connected to a curriculum in which the material sounds very different from today’s rock and pop. From Ragtime to Rock encourages viewers to explore their own musical influences. It also incorporates high-energy performances from an all-star band featuring members of Royal Crown Revue, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, the Michael Buble band, Conan O’Brien’s house band, and Bette Midler’s “Kiss My Brass” Revue. Included is a set of in-depth teacher guides designed to encourage further discussion and activity.

The response from music educators has been strong and highly positive. Steve Rucker, the long-time Director of Drum Set Studies at the highly respected University of Miami, calls From Ragtime to Rock, “… incredibly thorough and engaging!  An invaluable resource to those individuals who would like to enhance their awareness of American popular music.”  Berklee College of Music professor Henrique DeAlmeida says, “Daniel has pulled together the history in a very clear and understandable way. It inspired an appreciation in my students for what came before and for those who evolved American popular music.”

Daniel Glass New York Jazz Intensive

Having presented more than 300 clinics, master classes and seminars in his career, Glass is proud to “bring it all home” in hosting the inaugural Daniel Glass New York Jazz Intensive, set to take place at the Drummers Collective in NYC, June 3-6, 2016.

Participants will spend four jam-packed days and nights with Glass on a journey encompassing jazz evolution, technique, repertoire and performance. They will play with a professional New York rhythm section, meet celebrity guest musicians, and experience some of Manhattan’s legendary jazz clubs up close, including Birdland, where Glass is the house drummer every Monday night. The Daniel Glass New York Jazz Intensive offers drummers an incredible opportunity to learn the art of jazz from a master performer who has not only studied the music “from the inside out,” but is keenly aware of each stage of its evolution.

Glass, whose resume includes gigs with Liza Minnelli, Marilyn Maye and Freddie Cole, says, “I want to help jazz drummers frame things in a new way; to come away from this experience with a comprehensive understanding of the music, their role on the bandstand, and the practical skills to start swinging at a whole new level. I have developed very practical solutions to get you swinging NOW, whether you are a novice or a more experienced player.”

In collaboration with the Drummers Collective, two free scholarships are being offered to the 2016 Daniel Glass New York Jazz Intensive. For more information about the Intensive, scholarships and registration visit: bit.ly/DGNYJazzIntensive
