Jackie Cain (1928-2014)

Bebop vocalist Jackie Cain died September 15 at her home in New Jersey at the age of 86. Cain grew to prominence as part of the jazz duo “Jackie and Roy,” formed with her singer-pianist husband, Roy Kral. Cain was known for her lighthearted style, imparting an improvisational tone to every nuanced piece in her repertoire, altering the taste of many club vocalists from heavy and bluesy to the breezy style favored in the ’50s and ’60s.
