Jimmy Green’s Daughter Killed at School Shooting

Among the many tragic deaths in last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. was the daughter of beloved jazz saxophonist Jimmy Greene. Greene had moved to Newtown this past July after his wife got a job a local university. Greene’s solo recordings have been released by labels such as Criss Cross, RCA Victor, and NuJazz. He studied at the Hart School of Music under Jackie McLean, Steve Davis, Ken Radnofsky, and Kris Jensen. Greene’s daughter, Ana Marquez-Green, was six years old. On a Facebook post, Greene expressed gratitude for condolences expressed throughout the jazz community. “ “As much as she’s needed here and missed by her mother, brother and me … Ana beat us all to paradise,” he wrote. “I love you, sweetie girl.”
