Monk-in-Motion – The Next Face of Jazz

articles_19 copyBMCC Tribeca PAC recently presented the talented winners of the 2015 Thelonious Monk international Jazz Competition.

This year’s three finalists, jazz vocalists, performed with their own bands.

Veronica Swift, first runner-up, had her performance on Saturday, March 5– Jazz vocalist Swift has two albums as a leader under her belt, in addition to several festival appearances and headlining performances at major clubs such as Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC and Blues Alley in Washington, DC.

Vuyo Sotashe’s (second runner-up) will have his performance on March 19th. Young South African jazz vocalist Sotashe also won first prize at the very first Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2014. More recently, he won the Audience prize award and placed second over-all at the Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition in 2015.
