NEC Announces 2018-2019 Season Shows

New England Conservatory’s (NEC) Jazz Studies and Contemporary Improvisation (CI) Departments has announced more than 50 concerts for the upcoming season.

Highlights include “Tonight: The Music of Leonard Bernstein” celebrating the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth; “Vanguard: The Music of Ran Blake” featuring Blake with the NEC Jazz Orchestra; a residency and concert with composer, violinist, and singer Carla Kihlstedt; Grow Your Art, a music business residency and concert with NEC alum Dave Douglas; Ethan Iverson and the NEC Jazz Orchestra in “Bud Powell in the 21st Century;” a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Nat King Cole’s birth; an exploration of May Day directed by Anthony Coleman; Klezmerpalooza, a klezmer music festival; and CI Salon Nights and Jazz Ensemble concerts featuring hour-long programs by rising star NEC students from the Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation departments.

The 2018-2019 season continues to build on NEC’s rich legacy featuring more than 150 years of innovation showcasing the work of the first fully accredited jazz studies program at a music conservatory as well as the pioneering CI department. The new season presents diverse musical offerings from today’s most talented artists performed in NEC’s renowned concert halls, including three new state-of-the-art venues at the Student Life and Performance Center (SLPC).
