Remembering George Gruntz

Swiss pianist, composer, and arranger George Gruntz passed away last Thursday, January 10, 2013.

His Concert Jazz Band employed hundreds of musicians over its 40-plus years in touring action, including sidemen and soloists like Elvin Jones, Jimmy Knepper, Dexter Gordon, Sheila Jordan, and Herb Geller. Gruntz was born in Basle and has commissioned several orchestras and symphonies throughout his career, as well as serving as the artistic director of JazzFest Berlin.
