Keyboardist Anthony “Tony” Simmons, a well-known keyboardist who had collaborated with many performers throughout St. Louis, died on June 7 of a heart attack.
Simmons, who was 50, was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lost his vision completely by the time he was seven years old. He learned the piano and quickly made a name for himself locally, working in gospel groups for churches throughout the area. Simmons went on to accompany a variety of singers including Theo Peoples, David Peaston, Denise Thimes, Kim Massie, Bill Tucker, and more.
