Thomas Chapin, Night Bird Song at Monterey Jazz Festival

Share This:

The new music documentary film about the late jazz great Thomas Chapin has just been selected by the Monterey Jazz Festival to screen on Sept. 18 at its Jazz Theater.

Says EMMY Award-winning film director Stephanie J. Castillo: “Thomas Chapin was on his way there with the trio, booked for the summer of 1997, but had to call it off when he got sick with leukemia. So he will now have his chance to “play” through the film. He’s come full circle.”

The film can also be viewed in New York City at its premiere on Wednesday, April 27. The New York City International Film Festival will screen the 150 minute film on April 27 at 8:30 p.m. at the Dolby 88 Theater on 1350 Ave of the Americas—the film’s first United States film festival premiere.

Tickets for the NYC screening on April 27 at 8:30 p.m. are $15 and can be ordered online at
